Before anything else, I’m a daughter, a sister, a wife, a friend, and someone who is deeply sentimental about the people and life around me. I have a background in nursing and now photography, but I think the common thread through all of it is that I’ve always been deeply moved by the human experience.
I’m nostalgic and observant. I notice light constantly: the way it reflects off water, comes through a window, or catches in someone’s eyes. I notice hands, expressions, and the way people look at each other when they don’t realize anyone is watching.
Looking back, photography has always been right in front of me, and I’m not sure how I didn’t see it sooner. I’ve collected digital and film cameras since I was in middle school, and I’ve always been the friend taking photos when we’re out, making sure everyone has something to remember the night by. I think I’m naturally drawn to the little things that can feel insignificant in the moment but somehow become the things we remember most.
Photography brought together so many of the things I’ve always been drawn to: people, art, emotion, light, storytelling, and preserving memories. I love that a photograph can capture something that only existed for a second, and that its value only grows with time. Being invited into these parts of people’s lives is something I’m incredibly grateful for. Getting to preserve them through photographs is something I feel incredibly lucky to call my job.
I find inspiration almost everywhere, from art and fashion to nature, travel, and the things I come across in everyday life. I’m drawn to anything that makes me stop and look a little closer, or see something familiar in a different way. A lot of my inspiration really just comes from slowing down, paying attention, and noticing the beauty in the world around me.
Photography, to me, is something we create together. I want to understand what you’re drawn to and how you want this season of your life to be remembered. My role is to take that feeling and translate it through my own perspective into photographs that feel personal and intentional.
No matter what I’m photographing, I want you to be able to enjoy the experience as it’s happening. I’ll give you direction when you need it, but I also know when to step back and let things unfold naturally. Some of my favorite photographs happen when you’ve forgotten I’m there.
Connection is at the heart of why I photograph people. I want to understand who I’m photographing and what matters to them, so the photographs we create feel personal and true to their experience. I want the photographs to bring you back to the people, the connection, and the memories you shared.
My love for preserving memories extends beyond photography. Kazu Collective is something my husband and I created from that same sentimentality and from my own desire to have a place for my photographs and memories to live beyond my phone.
We make handcrafted leather journals, photo albums, and vow books meant to be held onto, filled over time, and returned to years from now. There’s something nostalgic about having these pieces of your life in a physical form, and I love creating a place for the photographs, words, and memories that matter to us most.
